IT Management

IT ManagementThe Global Forum is a worldwide IT management conference for senior retail executives. The conference reflects a true world-view of the retail systems industry. Retail speakers from around the globe IT consultants share their ideas and experiences, giving conference delegates the opportunity to keep fully up-to-date with the latest thinking and technology applications within the retail industry.

This year's conference theme is "Realise Business Opportunities with Technology Decisions".

Although a focus on ROI is always important it should not be the only basis for technology decisions. In fact, an over-reliance on ROI can leave the retailer at a substantial competitive disadvantage in the long term. Where ROI today focuses generally IT systems on the short-term payback of technology, return on opportunity (ROO) examines the long-term implications of a technology investment and its ability to transform the retail organization in ways that provide sustainable competitive advantage.

Track 1 will be "Consumer and Supplier Relationship Management" and Track 2 "Internal Management Issues"

With the theme "Exploring new technologies", there were some engaging presentations on RFID, chip and pin, voice recognition, queuebusting/RF, data mining for fraud IT support detection and eLearning. Embracing these technologies wholeheartedly, speakers described both the business benefits and strategies to face the new challenges that these developments would bring.
